hi Guys, I would like to get started in the FPGA world. I intend to use the board to perform computations. Hence connectivity to and from the PC should be good and via usb. Am looking for a low cost fpga board with: 1. Inbuilt USB port for data transfer 2. Good to have - Ethernet port Can I use low cost Papillon board for this purpose without soldering ( if there are any accessories to facilitate usb data transfer )? Thanks in advance. Cheers

Ronin, have a look at the website All Programmable Planet, http://www.programmableplanet.com/ One of their correspondents, Duane Benson, has been running a long (started in July 2012) series of articles on beginning with FPGAs using the Avnet Spartan-6 LX9 Microboard, which is based on the Xilinx Spartan-6 XC6SLX9-2CSG324C FPGA. This development board retails for USD 89 + shipping, at time of writing. The articles listing starts at: http://www.programmableplanet.com/archives.asp?section_id=2011&piddl_archivepage=2 Note that the website is sponsored by Xilinx. But I think it has all the features you want. I have placed an order through my local Avnet rep, but have yet to receive it and start to play/learn with it. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Have fun.

Do you already know the Cesys EFM-01 module? It has a Spartan-3E FPGA and a FX-2 Usb controller but no Ethernet. The FPGA signals are on 0.1" headers so you can connect things without soldering.
