I want to use the USART Break Condition (a.k.a out of band signalling) to switch a microcontroller into a specific operation mode. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_asynchronous_receiver/transmitter#Break_Condition) For a normal USART this condition is signaled in the USART status register of the micro controller. But how is the Break Condition handled by a FT245BM and the virtual com port driver ? How can I detect with a micro, that the PC did send a Break ? Any hints and workarounds are appreciated, Axel
After reading the data sheet up and down I came to the conclusion that the FT245 ignors a break condition as well as the data rate settings :-( An additional status register would be nice ... just for the case a FTDI designer reads this :-) How aboout asserting the read line first and the write line while read is asserted. This state could display the status register at the data bus. @hipos124: saying hello with a little bit of contents is probably not regarded as bad style. With contents I don't mean your CV but something that is related to the topic of the thread.
