Take a 1-wire sensor communication. The weight is about 2/3 of a I2C 
cabling.

I can beat the weight of a one wire cabling with wireless cabling ;-), 
... just kidding, you need batteries at the sensor side, but a coin cell 
did
run a mega88 rf231 combo over several months.
